SIXTY-SEVEN
Because life is a little meta sometimes: my senior year of design school I created a brand for an international student organization. This imaginary organization was very similar to Global InterVarsity, but I had free reign on the branding (instead of designing under InterVarsity's national brand.) I used this opportunity to explore ideas I was passionate about: icon design and print layout, and to explore web design.
Logo and typography brainstorming
The name "Sixty-Seven" comes from the sixty-seventh of a collection of poems in the Bible. It says:
1 May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face to shine upon us,
2 that your way may be known on earth,
your saving power among all nations.
3 Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you!
4 Let the nations be glad and sing for joy,
for you judge the peoples with equity
and guide the nations upon earth.
5 Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you!
The compass icon is taken from the fourth verse which says, "for you...guide the nations upon the earth."
I developed two additional icons to symbolize the (rather long) name of the organization and chose a muted color palette with a pop of red.
Red is a powerful color across cultures, with it's meaning ranging from celebration to spirituality, from good luck to courage. All of these meanings are important to the organization's mission to welcome the brave new students from across the world, celebrating their culture and helping them to succeed in this new one.
